A 2 year old boy I nanny for, about 28 months, seems to have a rather small vocabulary for his age.?
I see other children his age hold full conversations, but he doesn't. I can tell that he understands everything that I say to him, but he has a hard time communicating without making the same grunts and sounds he made about a year ago. I read to him all the time, we do flash cards, I tell him what things are called and have him repeat words, and I always make sure to use complete sentences with him, for example when he says "juice" I respond by saying "okay I will put some juice in your cup". I try my best to help him use his words but he usually just gets frustrated and just has a tantrum. As his nanny I know that my role in his development is really important and I am really not sure what I could be doing that I am not. He is a very smart boy, I am just worried about his vocabulary. I also understand that all children develop at their own personal stages but he is almost 2 1/2 now and I really don't want him to fall too behind. Is there something I am missing here, that I can do to help? Is there something I am missing here?
